Caterham F1 Signs Giedo Van Der Garde

Caterham confirmed on their website and sent out press releases today that GP2 star Giedo van der Garde will be their test driver/reserve driver for the 2012 F1 season. Caterham F1 Team Principal Tony Fernandes stated:

“His performances in GP2, particularly in 2011, mark Giedo out as one of motorsport’s brightest prospects, and securing him as Reserve Driver is a real coup for our team. I am sure he will flourish on and off track, and we wish him all the best as he takes the next step into Formula 1 with us.”

FC Barcelona Say Their Nike Shirts Suck

Literally suck… The team complained to Nike that their red and blue striped jerseys soaked up too much sweat during games instead of wicking the sweat away as promised.

According to an article on Time.com:

The special “pitch” shirt uses as many as a dozen recycled plastic water bottles in each shirt combined with Nike’s uniquely designed Dri-FIT material. The product aims to “wick” away sweat from the body, keeping wearers dry.

But they had the opposite effect. The problem was so bad that Barca’s players started weighing their jerseys at half time and found they weighed twice as much than before the game! An 8oz shirt doubled to 16oz in less than an hour!

Boycott Nike anyone? =)

FC Barcelona Use Thermal Blanket To Manage Field Conditions

FC Barcelona used a thermal blanket last night to cover the playing field at Camp Nou in an attempt to keep the grass from freezing before their match against Real Sociedad. The temperature was expected to drop below zero in the Catalan capital, but – with the thermal blanket – the pitch should stay near 3 or 4 degrees.

The FCB Team Manager Pep Guardiola is a stickler about pitch conditions during games. He’s been known to express his displeasure about the conditions of other teams’ fields. For example, referring to Mestalla’s grass:

“I wasn’t expecting the pitch to be so dry, but they have every right keep it like that. It’s their house, and they call the shots. We have to adapt.”

Ferrari F1 Unveiling Canceled Due To Snow!?

Ferrari wimps out of the official unveiling of their 2012 Formula One car because temperatures are dropping and it’s snowing in Italy. Guess this means i should forget the snowboarding sponsorship proposal i sent them… ;)

According to the official F1 website:

Ferrari have opted to cancel the official unveiling of their 2012 car because of heavy snowfall in Maranello. The launch ceremony was due to take place in Italy on Friday morning.
