This is another drink you’ll want to keep away from children (but want plenty of on ladies’ night!) So sweet and creamy, they won’t realize how much rum is packed in until it’s too late.

4 parts Tangerine Juice (fresh squeezed is always best)
2 parts dark Rum or spiced rum (recommend: The Kraken brand black spiced rum)
Few dashes of bitters

Shake with ice and enjoy!

If the drink is too sweet as is, add more rum. Seriously, you can saturate this drink with rum and it’ll still taste great!

Alternative:
Add 1 part Triple Sec and an additional 1 part dark Rum

Oh – as for the name… This is another recipe I just made up one nite when a roomie came home with Tangerine juice. Since I couldn’t find this drink online under any other name, it was dubbed Tangier Rum (or Tangerum if you prefer) after the Moroccan city. The 1st sip reminded me of the air around a Moroccan cafe: the smell of tangerine blossoms, spiced Moroccan coffee & shisha smoke. YUM! :)

You’ve heard of Whiskey Sours, well this is a Sour Pirate like Captain Jack Sparrow or Davey Crockett:

2 parts Rum
4 parts Lemonade
1 part Triple Sec or Grenadine

Either chill the lemonade in the freezer until it gets slushy or shake all the ingredients with ice.
Mix and enjoy!

Similar to a whiskey sour or a Long Island Ice Tea (without the massive hangover from mixing too many liquors). Reminds us of slow Southern afternoons in summer, sittin on a wraparound porch and sippin lemonade…

Video description:

Each year riders work to produce all the pretty pictures and video that glamorize the snowboarding lifestyle. In effect it’s porn; watching someone effortlessly land a gnarly trick turns our crank but it’s something that’s unattainable for most of us—a fantasy. The reality of getting just one shot for their video part is something much different than the final result. For every trick landed there’s dozens of bails. For every shovel full of snow thrown there’s a dozen fart and shit jokes told. Sessions can be the most grueling experience or the slackest time ever. For each crew, jump or rail it always changes. Uncapped is a series that looks at the personalities behind the lens and how they approach professional snowboarding. On the first episode of the series we follow Andrew Geeves, Mikey Pederson, Geoff Brown, Max Ritchie and Eric Greene as they film for Sandbox on the Brandywine 1080 hip.

I had to share this recipe for all my vegan homies in da haus!
Made with rice milk instead of half-n-half, it’s just as delicious with less calories too:

1 part (or 1 shot) dark Rum
2 parts (or 2 shots) Rice Dream rice milk (other brands may curdle or taste gritty)
1/2 part (or half a shot) Coffee Liqueur (Kahlua being the obvious choice, but cheaper versions work as well)

Combine rum and coffee liqueur & stir. Add rice milk & swirl together.
Enjoy!

This is one of those recipes that’s so good it’s hard to stop, so watch out! :)

Substitutions:
Of course you could use vodka instead of rum, just like a regular white/black Russian cocktail./

I love the Bayview/Hunter’s Point area of San Francisco. It’s a mix of industrial warehouses, residential neighborhoods, waterfront property, a shipyard and a naval base. Oh yeah, and a totally toxic, seismically-active superfund site. Assembly members Ammiano and Ma along with Senator Yee, wrote a letter to SF Mayor Gavin Newsome, encouraging him to demand that the Navy properly clean the site before returning it to the city. The letter describes it as, “a hazardous and radioactive waste landfill adjacent to a state park along the bay, in a high liquefaction zone with rising sea levels … [with] toxins and radioactive waste in this very unstable geology.” Why does the U.S. government always dump the nastiest stuff on active fault lines?!?! (Look up Yucca Mountain if you don’t know.)

Legend has it that the navy has been irresponsibly dumping all kinds of nasty into the ground there, including sandblast run-off and a few ships that were accidentally exposed to extreme amounts of radioactive material during a failed nuclear experiment. Not exactly an ideal place to raise kids, but definitely a great place to get mutated. And I’m ALL about mutation!

Sure, I say that tongue-in-cheek. Yet, I’m irresistibly drawn to this strange place. I love urban waterfront areas, so that’s def part of it. But there must be more to it, coz a whole community of artists live and work in the area. Something about this place is so inspiring that people consciously move there and go on to create some of the most incredible and unusual forms of art I’ve seen in the whole Bay Area. Sure, it’s not the birthplace of anything as well known as hyphy or house music. But it’s a great birthplace for mutating modern art. The Hunter’s Point artist community is having Open Studios this weekend, so I’ll see what’s new and report back next week with pix. In the meantime, enjoy these lovely photos I took of the waterfront wildlife yesterday.

Also, if you’re interested in the toxic history of the land, the SF Bay Guardian newspaper just published a great article about what our politicians are doing about it and whether the Navy is going to return the land as is or if they’re going to clean it up first. As it stands now, there’s plans to turn the naval base into a park, toxic turf and all…

3 Amazing Books to read over the holidays by Erik Davis, Ray Kurzweil and Tom Fenton.

There are three authors that have profoundly affected my awareness of the world which, in turn, influenced the course of my destiny. These three writers are an absolute must-read in my book. Each have helped re-wire my neural circuitry and created whole new pathways in my brain with their revolutionary intellect and ability to communicate. While others have done this as well, these three stand out. Anyone interested in the future – on a scientific level, an industrial level as well as a cultural level – can benefit from the ideas and future-thinking of these amazing authors.
I intend to write a review of each book to publish here later this month. But for now, I wanted to recommend them to you. Just in case you’re looking for some quality reading material for the holidays. When you’re done, we can discuss the books thoroughly…

And of course, this post needs fascinating video of scientists describing the future, so here ya go:
