Snowboard season has officially started here in California and for the mutants behind mut8.org

To help YOU get pumped, Standard Snowboards has a pile of new vids streaming straight into your bedroom/office/locker room/hotel room/etc..

Start with this one:

Snow Park Technologies & Tahoe Backcountry

After the 1st break, stand in front of your computer screen and get ready for an exhilarating ride via helmet cam. If you bend your knees and really role-play it, it gets a bit scary! =)

Standard Films make great snowboard videos that will really get you psyched to hit the mountain. Watch Kazuhiro “Kazu” Kokubo from Japan tear it up his 1st time visiting Lake Tahoe.

The videos that Kirkwood is posting from the mountain everyday are pretty cool. But if you need some serious stoking before grabbing your board, check these out:

My fave videos lately are by Standard Films. One of the reasons I prefer Standard is because they often show runs and tricks at full speed. You really get a sense for how a trick is done and just how fast you need to be going in order to get it right. You can watch full episodes of The Standard Snowboard Show on FuelTV:

The Standard Snowboard Show on FuelTV

Season 05 Episode 02 features one of my fave riders, Kazuhiro “Kazu” Kokubo. You can watch this episode right here:

More Standard Films Snowboard Links

If for some reason you can’t view vids at Fuel.TV, you can also watch The Standard Snowboard Show on Hulu.com.

Snow continues to dump at Kirkwood. Almost 2 feet of fresh powder arrived over the weekend and the forecast calls for glorious conditions for pre-holiday sliding. Roads are clear, but 4×4 and/or chains are required. Blackout dates/holiday pricing doesn’t start until December 27th, so get thee to the mountain this week! Here’s the latest 2 videos from the scene:

Sunday, December 21:

Even for “stormy” conditions, this still looks like FUN!

Driving, flying and shuttle bus directions to Kirkwood Mountain Ski Resort including an interactive Google map.

KIRKWOOD CA is approximately 30 miles south of South Lake Tahoe. The exact address is:
1501 Kirkwood Meadows Drive
Kirkwood, CA 95646

LAND ROUTES

Google map and driving directions:
For directions to Kirkwood from anywhere in the world, scroll down and click the Google map. Then, enter your location to find the best route and estimated distances.

Using a navigation system:
Enter the address into your GPS/Nav system and hit the road!
Please note that Mormon Emigrant Trail is closed during the winter months… This road will likely pop up as the fastest route on your system, so make sure to select an alternate option. Additionally, if Shake Ridge Road or Fiddletown Road appear, select an alternate route. These roads are both very narrow, curvy, and steep – in some areas they have limited or no snow removal and poor cellular service in event of emergencies.

For questions or directions assistance along the way, call Kirkwood at 209.258.6000.

ROAD CONDITIONS:
These link directly to the California Department of Transportation website which updates road conditions often.
Highway 88
Highway 89
Highway 50
All California Highways

AIR ROUTES:

Kirkwood is fairly close to these major airports:
Reno-Tahoe International (RNO) is the closest
Sacramento International (SMF) is second closest

San Francisco International (SFO) – is roughly a 3 hour drive from Kirkwood, but there are obvious advantages to stopping in SF before and after you visit the mountain. However, securing rides from SF can sometimes be more trouble than it’s worth. So, unless you plan on renting a car once you land, it might make more sense to fly into the Renoe-Tahoe airport.

SHUTTLE BUSES

From the San Francisco area:
For those traveling directly from the Bay Area, the Bay Area Ski Bus offers service to Kirkwood on several weekends throughout the winter. NACSKI also offers shuttle service to the resort throughout winter.

From the Reno-Tahoe airport:
The South Tahoe Express offers shuttle service directly to Stateline at the casinos. From Stateline, you can hop on the Kirkwood Shuttle at one of various locations.

For assistance along the way, call Kirkwood at 209.258.6000.

It looks incredible up there! I can’t wait to get out of the city and riiiiiiiide! I’ll be posting regular updates on all the best snowboarding spots in Tahoe this winter, so check back often. I’ll also be riding Kirkwood and Squaw on the regular and posting up our own snowboard videos of Team Green. If you plan to slide in the Lake Tahoe area anytime this winter, check here first for conditions, hot spots, powder spots, hot tub reviews, hotel reviews and more!
