Kimi Raikkonen Is Back! [Video]

We are soooooo excited that Kimi is finally ready to drive in Formula 1 again!!! Personally, I loved him as a rally racer, but I also feel F1 needs a Raikkonen injection to become exciting again. Really hoping to see Kimi kick some ass out there next year!

The news comes via KimiRaikkonen.com that Kimi secured a seat with Lotus Renault GP for the 2012 F1 season, signing a 2-year agreement with the team.

Räikkönen explains his decision:

“I’m delighted to be coming back to Formula 1 after a two-year break, and I’m grateful to Lotus Renault GP for offering me this opportunity. My time in the World Rally Championship has been a useful stage in my career as a driver, but I can’t deny the fact that my hunger for F1 has recently become overwhelming. It was an easy choice to return with Lotus Renault GP as I have been impressed by the scope of the team’s ambition. Now I’m looking forward to playing an important role in pushing the team to the very front of the grid.”

We’d heard whispers of Raikkonen joining Renault as early as September 2010 (see Raikkonen In The Running For F1 Renault Seat) but I guess these things take a while to play out…

Trailers, plot info and more about the new documentary movie – Ayrton Senna: The Will To Win – that follows the Brazilian Formula One driver & winner of three F1 world championships before his death at age 34. All the star players of Formula 1 circa early 90′s are present – Alain Prost, Frank Williams, Gerhard Berger, Nelson Piquet, Nigel Mansell, and of course, Ayrton Senna. Also on hand to tell the tale – Lewis Hamilton, Jackie Stewart and more!

Storyline

Born in São Paulo Brazil, Senna began racing at a very early age, and like Fernando Alonso, took up karting when his older sister rejected it. By 1984, Senna had tested for Williams, McLaren, Brabham and Toleman teams, but only Toleman had an open seat for the 1984 season. Senna jumped in and drove his first Grand Prix race on his native soil at the Brazilian Grand Prix in Rio de Janeiro.

The complete and unauthorised story of Brazilian racing driver Ayrton Senna a triple Formula One world champion who is regarded as one of the greatest drivers in the history of Formula One A kart racer from an early age, Senna won the British Formula 3 championship in 1983 and made his Formula One debut with Toleman the next year. He moved to Lotus-Renault in 1985, and won six Grand Prix over the next three seasons. In 1988 he joined Frenchman Alain Prost at McLaren-Honda, the top driver and team at the time, and won that year’s championship. He and Prost developed a heated rivalry, which is regarded as the most bitter in F1 history.

Senna also won the 1990 and 1991 F1 championships. In the next two years with McLaren, despite driving an inferior car, Senna won races and challenged for the 1993 world title, finishing runner-up to Prost. He switched to the then-dominant Williams Renault team for the 1994 season. At the third race of the year millions of fans witnessed his fatal crash live on global TV coverage whilst leading the San Marino Grand Prix.
